Research Blog #6: Visual

This visual is a representation of how many college students drink alcohol. Drinking alcohol in college is more prominent than many would expect. It is especially more startling when given the statistic that less than half of the collegiate student body is over 21, the minimum drinking age. This means that of those who are drinking, the majority of them are likely to be underage. In addition to that, the majority of students who drink are not only drinking, but binge drinking. Binge drinking is an unhealthy and often dangerous part of drinking culture. Together these two statistics give insight to just how deeply engrained drinking is, and how this college subculture has an unhealthy, risky side. This visual sets the background for my research question. Through my research I will outline just how history has brought us to this point, and what this precarious dynamic means for today's college campuses.
